FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a referral to see the doctor?

A referral enables claims to be made from Medicare and your Health Fund (Theatre).  Referrals are valid for 12 months from a General Practitioner and 3 months from another specialist.

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?

  • Referral letter from a General Practitioner or other doctor.
  • Medicare card, DVA Card, Pension or Health Care Card.
  • Have your Private Hospital Insurance information and card with you.
  • Copies of results, X-ray’s, Ultrasounds, MRI’s, CT scans etc and any other relevant information e.g. Pap Smear result.

How often am I seen during my pregnancy?

Antenatal visits are (usually) scheduled as follows:

  • First visit: 8-10 weeks gestation
  • 4 weekly until 28 weeks gestation
  • 2 weekly until 36 weeks gestation
  • Weekly until delivery
  • Postnatal visit: 6-8 weeks after delivery

Every effort is made to run to the appointment schedule however, due to the unpredictable nature of Obstetrics, there may be occasions when the doctor may be delayed or not available.  Where possible you will be notified in advance.  It is understood that you are also busy and appreciate your patience and understanding.  If, for any reason, you are delayed or unable to keep your scheduled appointment please notify our rooms at your earliest convenience.

When do I pay for my visit?

After you have completed your consultation and examination with the doctor you will return to our reception desk where our friendly staff will make any additional appointments for you and will then take your payment.
